World Maritime Day 2021

On 30 September the global maritime community comes together to celebrate the World Maritime Day.

The 2021 theme is "Seafarers at the core shipping's future" which reflects the need to raise awareness to the crucial role of seafarers in world trade.

The 2020 crew change crisis derived from the pandemic has highlighted seafarers' exceptional contribution as essential workers on the front line of delivering vital goods through the pandemic and in ordinary times.

The World Maritime Day theme for 2021 will be an opportunity to focus on seafarers as the people at the heart of shipping while keeping in mind other relevant topics in the role of the seafarer in safety, security, environmental protection and well-being. This theme also creates sinergies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals such as education and training, decent work and gender equality.
